És SZŐVÉNYI G.: ORTHOPTERA 117 Orthoptera-fauna of Somogy county (SW-Hungary) BARNABÁS NAGY & GERGELY SZÖVÉNYI Somogy county (SW-Hungary) is a hilly region - with somewhat plain parts in its northern and southern edge - situated between Lake Balaton and the River Dráva. Only a few systematical, but more occasional collectings yielded 57 Orthoptera (Tettigonioidea: 19, Grylloidea: 3, Tetrigoidea: 3, Acridoidea: 32) species which equals 48.7 % of the total Hungarian Orthoptera fauna. Three species (Poecilimon fussii, Calliptamus barbarus, Acrida ungarica) are under nature protection in Hungary, but there are also several other zoogeogaphycally valuable species, such as Odontopodisma decipiens, Oedaleus decorus, Myrmelcotcttix antennatus, Omocestus petracus, etc. which occur sporadically here in the peripheral zone of their area. Odontopodisma schmidtii is a mesohygric species occurring along the River Drava, segregating geographically and in habitat from the mesoxeric Odontopodisma decipiens. The occurrence of the mountain Pholidoptera aptera grasshopper in the studied area represents the lowest known altitude (150-160 m asl.) in Hungary, which seems to be here as an analogous phenomenon with the extrazonal occurrence of the beech (Fagus sihatica) forests. The southern Meconema méridionale was detected here for the third time in Hungary (occurring all in the studied area) which has to be considered as an evidence of expansion to NE.
