ÁDÁM MÉSZÁROS BARCS AND THE TWIN TOWN RELATIONS SUMMARY The 1980's was characterized by the opening to the western part of Europe. In this time the process started, which later led to Bares and a western german town's twin town relationship. Bares was among of the first Hungarian settlements which started to make a relationship with a western town. The first twin town relationship brought a process which resulted in five more ather twin towns for Bares. The author of this article show the five partner settlements of Bares and the history of becoming a twin town. The topic is very current because in this year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of starting of the relationship Barcs-Sinsheim and the 10th anniversary of Bares and Zselíz (Zeliezovce). The importence of twin town relationships is also shown by the name of the square in the town centre. We got several presents from these towns like wooden plays for the playground and a Transylvanian "Székely" Gate next to the City Hall of Bares. These objects were gathered in the twin town square among which we can walk day by day.
