Sándor Soproni: A LATE ROMAN WATCH-TOWER (BURGUS) AT VISEGRÁD-SZENTGYÖRGYPUSZTA In 1955 we succeeded in excavating a Roman burgus at Szentgyörgypuszta (in the vicinity of Visegrád). The watch-tower is situated on the top of a little hill, near the Danube. The thickness of its walls is 1,05 m. The inside measurement is 9.35 X 9,15 m. The watch-tower, as the auxiliary fortress of the Roman camp at Visegrád took an important part in the campaigns against the Quads. In front of this recently discovered burgus there is another one in the Szentendre-isle (Kisoroszi territory). An other watch-tower at Visegrád (excavationed in 1955) was built in 372 A. D. according to its discovered inscription. In all probability our recently excavationed burgus was built in the same year as it was proved by some tegulae stamps from the reign of Valentinian I. 43
