Nándor Ikvai: THE MUSEUMS OF COUNTY PEST County Pest around the capital, Budapest, is very rich in historical monuments, ethnographical collections and fine artistical results. This various and in its quantity enormous material are kept in the museums and show-rooms of the county. Our short résumé surveys the development of the museums the data of their foundations and the exhibitions you can visit in them. Our more significant museums: Museum Kossuth at Cegléd. In the institution you can find the relics of its eponym, Kossuth Lajos, and the war of independence in 1848. Beside this material the monuments of the Bronze Age, the Hungarian Conquest (9—10th century A. D.) and the documents of the Hungarian Early Middle Ages are interesting. The museum has an important ethnical material of the agriculture and the animal husbandry of the area. Ferenczy Museum, Szentendre. The museum possesses its eponym's paintings and beside this material there are many Roman stones and other archaeological monuments from different periods. The museum has a rich collection of fine arts; an important colony of artists is working here in the town. You can also fund a magnificent collection of Serbian ikons and other monuments <at Szentendre. Voie Bottyán Museum at Vác stores the rich historical monuments of the ancient bishop's town and beside this we can study there the archaeological and ethnical material of the area. In its developping collection of fine arts you can find precious paintings from the 17th century and the same cabinet has the latest works of the „Danubian artists". Arany János Múzeum, Nagykőrös. The museum keeps the relics of its eponym, the great Hungarian poet, Arany János. Beside this collection you can find a rich material of the mediaeval archaeology in the Great Hungarian Plain. The monuments of the agriculture and the animal husbandry are important and interesting. The other smaller museums and show-rooms store and collect the archaeological, historical and ethnical monuments of the area or the relics of some important artists (writers, poets, painters etc.). You can get informations about these smaller institutes in the table as well. The administrative centre resides in the Ferenczy Museum at Szentendre.
