Török Katalin (szerk.): Local colour. Szentendrei kortárs festészeti tárlat, 2012. június 9 - 2012. szeptember 2. (Szentendre, 2012)

demes művészeti ágazatokra bontott, Szentendréhez köthető csoportos kiállításokat is rendezni a jövőben. Török Katalin LOCAL COLOUR • Contemporary Art Exhibition of Szentendre 2012 The decades of the presence of artists in Szentendre experimenting in the fields of fine arts and applied arts following the widest range of stylistic trends had an essential influence on both the young generation and elder self-educated and "Sunday painters". The collective exhibition of artists living in Szentendre or influenced by the atmosphere of the town - at the beginning just painters, later sculptors and others -, an event with the name Szentendre Art Exhibition was organized in the seventies and eighties, in the "great period", interchanging with the Pest County Exhibitions every second year. Invitations called the public first to Ferenczy Museum then from 1979 on to a new venue, to Szentendre Picture Gallery. "The Szentendre Art Exhibitions were events of outstanding importance in the seventies. They gave the essence of Hungarian contemporary art. It is well known that Szentendre art did not mean a homogeneous stlye (with the exception of the early period), neither did it mean a school, although during its almost century long history all the different stylistic trends were exemplified. In the eighties the pictures of Jenő Barcsay, János Pirk, Dezső Korniss or Erzsébet Vaszkó were still hanging on the walls of Szentendre Picture Gallery and Miklós Bánovszky, founding member of the Society of Szentendre Painters (1928) always appeared on the openings in elegant suit. These exhibitions had a special atmosphere. In 1967 however protesting against the violent intervention of power, the artists of Lajos Vajda Studio left the Picture Gallery and organized a counter-exhibition in the cellar-workshop of the VLS. This meant the end of the Szentendre Art Exhibitions." (Ferenc Hann) The Szentendre Art Exhibition of 1987 made famous by the demonstrative secession of the members of Lajos Vajda Studio was followed by the next one only after 12 years in 1999 on another venue, in the ArtMill opened that year. The reason for the increased interest was partly the miss of the exhibition and the joy for the new exhibition hall, as well as plans for the future. Still the displays were paused for another decade from 2002 on. The Szentendre Art Exhibition organized with the title "Local colour" in 2012 is different from the earlier ones. Not just in the point that it brings only paintings, as parallel in other parts of the ArtMill sculptures of the Biennial are displayed. More than seventy artist take part in the exhibition, almost half of them belong to one of the local artists' communities (Old Szentendre Artists Colony, Lajos Vajda Studio/VLS, IKON Group, OMKAMRA, Forgács Society). As in earlier exhibitions, new works of famous artists, living classics together with young artists, many of them showing talent, steady selftaughts and enthusiastic amateurs fill the halls of ArtMill.
