(6100-4500 ВС) (4500-2700 ВС) (2700/2500-800 ВС) The section of an Avar cemetery with 95 graves from the late Avar period (last third of the 7th century to the first decades of the 9th century) was uncovered in 1995 during the excavations preceding the construction of the Vác bypass of Road 2, in an area known as Alsó-Csipkés-dűlő. The village of the community using the cemetery lay on the northern bank of the Felső-Gombás Stream, some 300 meters north of the cemetery (Vác, Site 33, identified during field surveys). The investigated cemetery section can be divided into two parts. The wealthier members of the community buried their dead in the eastern part, where seven graves, each containing the burial of a man and his horse were found, all dating from the last third of the 7th century and the early 8th century. The finds from Grave 24/12 and the observations made during its excavation enabled the reconstruction of the horse harness (nose band, breast band, neck strap and crupper strap). • • László Simon 3. 1.
