CURRICULUM VITAE I was born on January 17, 1895 in the free town of Besztercebánya in the Uplands Region of the Hungarian Kingdom before the Treaty of Trianon. Having finished my secondary school studies I went on a tour to Westren Europe. My artistic education started in Munich. Then I became a student of the Hungarian Academy of Arts in Budapest. My professor was István Réti. The Szinyei Society gave me defferent diplomas, awards and scholarship. I started to exhibit my paintings quite early in Hungary as well as abroad. I took part in diverse competitions and in 1926 I received the After World War I. I was mainly engaged in portrait painting. In the 1930s I was commisioned to paint the portraits of several notabilities. I painted the portrait of the Governor for the Festive Hall of the Palace of Country Administration in Miskolc. There were several ministers, Secretaries of State, representatives of the Upper House, factory owners and managers of notable industrial enterprises among my commissioners. I sold my works (mainly portraits) to Slovakia, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe as well. After World War II, in 1948 I was commissioned to paint a large portrait of Mihály Táncsics for the festive Hall of the Palace of Country Administration in Budapest. For the Trade Union of Physicians I painted the portrait of the martyred physician dr. Sándor Doktor. For the Phylaxia National Vaccine Factory I painted the portarits of two general managers, Professors dr. János Köves and dr. Rezső Manninger. At one of my exhibitions The Museum of Military History bought my painting titled "Soldiers in the Reading Room”, while the Police purchased my "Harvesting Peasant at Rest”. The Museum of Fine Arts and The Gallery of Budapest also purchased my works. I had retrospektive shows in miskolc, Nyíregyháza, Dunaújváros, Munich, Stuttgart, Besztercebánya (today Banská Bistrica in Slovakia), Eperjes (Presov, Slovakia) and Liptószentmiklós (Liptovské Mikulás, Slovakia). Apart from portraits I painted genre pictures, ladscapes and still-lives. Having finished the Academy of Arts in 1926, with seven fellow-students studying with Professor István Réti we founded an artists” colony in Szentendre. In 1928 under the name "The Society of Szentendre Painters 1928” we established a society of artists. We asked Béla Iványi Grünwald to preside it. After World War II the societies of artists were dissolved. Apart from the above society I was also member of the Artists’ Association and the ’’Sheaf’ Society. The artists’ colony in Szentendre was nationalized. Now it is a property of the arts Found. The Society of Szentendre Painters 1928 had eight founders. The president was Béla Iványi Grünwald and the members included József Bánáti Sverák, László Rozgonyi, Henrik Heintz, Béla Onódi, Ernő Jeges, Lajos Pándy.Jenő paizs Goebel and Miklós Bánovszky. Our aim was to seek new ways of art following the Nagybánya traditions to merge the recent archievements of European art with Hungarian progressive traditions. It was the condition at the adoptation of new members as well. May 4, 1984 Miklós Bánovszky Address/Studio: H-1113 Budapest, Dráva u. 12. III. 59. Phone: (3&-1) 120 0627
