Mais ce n'est pas une charrette de foin ou une figure de promeneur qui font ressentir les proportions et la profondeur spatiale, mais une voiture à moteur à essence. Le contraste entre les feuillages à la teinte sombre bleu froid et vert et le dôme du ciel blanc grisé plus clair accroît davantage les effets d'oppositions. La peinture étalée en couche épaisse et le coup de pinceau vigoureux, presque vibrant, créent une surface riche et rythmée. Proportion and space are represented by a petrolpowered car rather than by a hay-cart or a walking figure. The counter-effect is further enhanced by the contrast of the dark, cold blue and green foliage and the brighter, grey-white sky. The thick layer of paint and the powerful, almost vibrating brush strokes create a lush, rhythmic surface. Jeges's Barbizon painting conveys a winter landscape that is lacking nostalgia, yet very passionate. EB
