Első látásra a földrajzi távolság túl nagynak tűnhet. A Seine és Marne megyei kis község a fontainebleau-i erdő tövében nem büszkélkedhet olyan különleges adottságokkal, mint a Duna partján festői környezetben elterülő Szentendre, mely látogatottságában és fejlettségében messze felülmúlja francia társát. Ami mégis összeköti e két települést, az nem más, mint a festészet. Mindkét művésztelep iskolát teremtett: a 19. század közepe, a 20. század eleje táján számos magyar festő telepedett le vagy legalábbis tanult Franciaországban, így valószínűleg a fontainebleaui erdőben is megfordult néhány magyar festő, akik állványaikkal és ecseteikkel a leghíresebb francia mesterek mellé telepedtek le. A fény, a páratlan táj számos festőnek adott itt ihletet: T. Rousseau, J.F. Millet, J. Dupré, C. Daubigny, C. Troyon, G. Courbet és még sokan mások valóságos festőakadémiát hoztak létre Barbizonban, ahol az irodalom kimagasló alakjai - Musset, Georges Sand vagy a Concourt testvérek - is megfordultak néha. / Mindössze néhány kilométerre a fővárostól, Barbizon éppúgy Párizs kapuja, mint Szentendre Budapestnek. / Mégis, a két iskola stílusa merőben eltér egymástól, amiben szerepet játszik a tájak különbözősége is: Barbizonban az erdők és fatörzsek sötét színei uralkodnak, az esős égbolt és a szűrt fények jellemzik a műveket, míg Szentendrén és Nagybányán (ahol egy azonos irányvonalat követő másik festőműBarbizon, Szentendre? Le rapprochement géographique semble à première vue difficile. La petite commune de Seine et Marne est située à la lisière de la forêt de Fontainebleau dont l'eau est quasiment absente alors que Szentendre, beaucoup plus touristique et développée, jouit, le long du Danube d'un exceptionnel environnement. Mais ce qui les unit appartient à un autre domaine, celui de l'art pictural. Toutes deux ont abrité de véritables « colonies d'artistes » qui ont d'ailleurs fait école et à une époque - entre le milieu du XIX ème siècle et le début du XX ème - où nombre de peintres hongrois s'installaient en France, du moins pour y étudier, il est probable que la forêt de Fontainebleau a vu quelques chevalets et pinceaux magyars côtoyer ceux des plus célèbres peintres français qui venaient trouver à Barbizon une lumière et des paysages propres à alimenter leur inspiration : T. Rousseau, J.F. Millet, J. Dupré, C. Daubigny, C. Troyon, G. Courbet et bien d'autres encore ont fait de Barbizon une véritable académie picturale où venaient parfois les rejoindre la fine fleur de la littérature, Musset, G. Sand ou les frères Goncourt. / Paris n'est qu'à quelques dizaines de kilomètres tout comme Szentendre, aux portes de Budapest ! / Mais le style des deux écoles est sensiblement différent et la géographie y a sa part de responsabilité : à Barbizon les teintes sombres des sous-bois et des troncs d'arbre , les ciels pluvieux, les lumières tamisées. A Szentendre et à Nagybánya - autre colonie d'artistes Barbizon and Szentendre? At first glance, the geographical comparison seems unlikely. The small community of Barbizon, in the department of Seine et Marne, is located on the outskirts of the forest of Fontainebleau, where there is virtually no water; while Szentendre, far more developed and frequented by tourists, enjoys an exceptional setting on the banks of the Danube. But the thing that unites them is in another domain: pictorial art. Both towns were host to renowned artists' colonies, which flourished in an era - between the mid-nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries - when many Hungarian painters went to France, at least to study. It is not unlikely that the forest of Fontainebleau saw a few Hungarian easels and paintbrushes, side by side with those of the most famous French painters, who found light and countryside in Barbizon to nourish their imaginations. T Rousseau, J.F. Millet, J. Dupré, С. Daubigny, С. Troyon, G. Courbet and many others made Barbizon a genuine pictorial academy, where they were occasionally joined by the finest talents of literature, including Musset, G. Sand, and the Goncourt brothers. / And Paris is only a few kilometres away from Barbizon, much as Szentendre is at the doors of Budapest. / But the style of the two schools is noticeably different, and geography has its part to play in that.
