шипи The artists presented in this group focus on the change, decay and decline of living or dead material in their photos. Concrete, true and measurable time is discernible mainly in the change affecting the condition of the objects. Material is proceeding from perfectness to decay, from existence to destruction. In the photo pair ’Timeline - Water-line’ by György Paraszkay, a sun-dial, the symbol of measurable time, is contrasted with the water-line measuring the ever-changing level of waterflood. The progress of time divided into minutes and hours can be characterised by steady rhythm, whereas the power of the water-level of the river and the swelling flood is changing all the time. József Milos and Márton Csíkszentmihályi portray tree as the symbol of change and time. Trees are the only living creatures which are capable of recording their growth by means of their age rings. Milos focuses on the age rings, cracks and splits of trees, as he regards them as the true imprints of time. Csíkszentmihályi illustrates wood as an altering, decaying material. Gergely Krizbai interprets the metaphorical layers of meaning of wood in his lenticular photo. The print consisting of several phase photos records a temporal, daily process, tracking the felling of a tree from under the fire escape of a building at the Old Artists’ Colony of Szentendre. Tree is a symbol of vitality and continuity, still this photo illustrates the destruction of it. A part of the trunk of the leafless tree leaning over the grey concrete wall has been removed. As a result, the once-living, amputated tree has become a grotesque, unreal, dead work of art. In his photos entitled ’Time’, József Baksai pictures passing and irreversible decay. The photos focus on discarded, disused waste, rusty wire bunches, indicating the futility of the struggle against time. 71
