Gergely Barki: Czóbel from Paris to Paris 1903-1925

107 According to Kállai’s list of Czóbel’s exhibitions (Kállai 1934, p 27), he had already had a collective exhibition in the Galerie Dr. Goldschmidt - Dr. Wallerstein in 1920, but this information is most probably incorrect. According to the database which includes the gallery’s activity (Schweiger, op. cit. in note 106), the gallery’s first modern exhibition was held in 1921, where though Czóbel also participated. Unfortunately, the scolarly literature overtook this incorrect date of 1920, sometimes even mingling it together with the exhibition in the Galerie Paul Cassirer (KRATOCHWILL 2001, p 29), or even mentioning the names of the gallery owners as two different galleries. According to the above mentioned database and other, mostly press sources, Czóbel took part in the Berliner Gallery’s exhibitions several times (in 1921,1922, 1923 and 1925), both in collective and individual exhibitions. As an artist representing the gallery, he was even introduced at shows in the countryside and abroad - for example, Darmstadt in 1922 and Vienna in 1924. 132.
