Dr. Ferencz Dietz: Dear Artlover Citizens, Dear Guests

DEAR ARTLOVER CITIZENS, DEAR GUESTS, I remember to my childhood’s first visit to the Czóbel Museum on the Church Hill. The old house and the collection were enchanting. Many years have gone ever since, but the bewitching feeling is still the same. The wall of my office opposite to the writing desk is still decorated with a Czóbel painting, it attracts my look, its mood is fascinating and it gives me strength and joy. Its rich colours make me feel as if the painter scatters colours as a prism to the canvas. But what is colour used so expressively by Czóbel? It is often held, that the world is simply black and white, colour is simply an illusion of our eyes. Czóbel might also have played with this thought, as during his Berlin stay his colours turned more moderate, then in Paris, and later in Szentendre he again found the colours of the rainbow. His works prove us that it is worth living with eyes open, as the world is not only black and white. We have to listen to the shades, the hidden beauties, as this makes our lives better, richer and more exciting, like the thousand flowers of the park named after him shining as if they were of the painter’s canvas. I wish a pleasant visit to the exhibition, with new experiences. Szentendre, 23 April 2014-Dr. Ferenc Dietz Mayor of Szentendre CZÓBEL, A FRENCH HUNGARIAN PAINTER 5
