Emőke Bodonyi: Czóbel's water colours and graphic works

163. Béla Czóbel: Standing Nude, 1920s. Szentendre, Ferenczy Museum planned to be published in the near future is of outstanding value. A certain part of these works is giving an insight to the studio secrets of the artist, another part of them is of authentic value. The first piece of the collection was a chalk drawing purchased in 1954, followed by the donations of the artist not much later, in 1969 and 1972. In the year of the opening of the Czóbel Museum, in 1975, 35 paintings and 30 pieces of graphic works were offered by him for staging in the permanent exhibition. Following his death a testamentary bequest of several hundred pieces, then in 1977, a donation of Michel Kellermann, the Paris art collector of Hungarian origin, 140 drawings were the further additions to the Czóbel collection in Szentendre. As it is well known, Czóbel was interested mainly in his newest works, so it is of outstanding importance, that his daughter, Lisa Czóbel-Bergeest was fortunately holding together both paintings and graphic works in her possession, and she donated in two portions to the Ferenczy Museum in Szentendre further precious graphic works. In 1983 altogether 52 works, several lithographs among them, two etchings, three paintings and a few drawings got to the collection. In 1997, as a bequest of Lisa Czóbel-Bergeest, who died that year, an addition to the art collection of the Ferenczy Museum was made among them the emblematic work painted in the Netherlands in 1916, the Boy with Ball, and further graphic works of this period. Thus, the Szentendre collection has 18 Frank, János - Kratochwill, Mimi: Czóbel.
