eternal and essential matter is life and mortality. With respect to the land it's the village, with respect to the direction it's far not wither naive or folksy.' (Magdolna B.Supka) For the acknowledgement of his sensitive art Csohány gained the Munkácsy Award twice as earned the rank of Merited Artist of the Hungarian People's Republic. His creative period of made up only 28 years, as if he felt the urge: worked hard and left a massive oeuvre behind. Since 1957, he has also dealt with ceramics and pottery in majolica factory, in Hódmezővásárhely. For the potteries, he applied the same motives of Hungarian folk ornamentation that he had applied for the graphics before. He created potteries for several institutes, plants and further buildings in the country. As he experienced the defined state of the lines engraved to the soft material, he evolved this kind of extremism to his graphics. The resolute line his etching, not allowing any offsets meant eternity for him and he devoted his almost symbol dedicated works for duplication. The motives carved and milled into the copperplate don't even bear any modifications; therefore a work built on such an extremity must have an exact choreography. Csohány could recall the ethereal performance of the drawings for the harder surface of the metal without any of stiffening of forms. This is substantial, because the wider audience, at home as well as abroad learnt Csohány's art by means of his etches. 'Within painting the watercolour is in the most intimate terms with Csohány, he addressed its musicality and lyric the most freely by means of this. As if the softness of the colours and glazing rainbow shine accompanied the brush-lyrics with melodies. The techniques of this genre is based on the colours applied wet and swiftly; only the most initiated authors know, why the thirsty paper doesn't devour the brightness, which don't fade as time is passing by. Kálmán Csohány did know this.' (Magdolna B.Supka) The Hungarian feature can be discovered in all of Csohány's works: the Hungarian land, the legends and characters of Hungarian history, folk customs and sagas, the astral-mythic hart pasturing among the stars, our Wonder Dear, who had led Hunor and Magor to this land of rich vegetation, where Dózsa, Berzsenyi and József Attila and followers were born, later on. This hart led Csohány back to his land, too, as a gallery was founded for his works. The dear led him right to the building where he attended school between 1931 and 1934. He returned to a school, not as student, but as a 'teacher', a tutor with his works. What we, people living far from natural and nature forgot still lives on in Csohány's creations. We forgot the start that guide along time and paths, we analyse them only by science, we forgot or folk customs, that would take us nearer to one another. Each of his works warns us; and if we don't pay enough attention, our values will become as wooden headboards in the county of Hajdú-Bihar. We can call us fortunate for the opportunity to learn Csohány's works, because we can meet something of'pure humanity'. 9
