THE HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY OF KÉKKŐ AREA’S DISTRICT DURING THE 150 YEARS OF TURKISH RULE

In my study I would like to reveal the elder days’ historical geography of Kékkő area’s district, following in the footsteps of György Györffy and Dezső Csánki. As a result of the Ottoman rule, a huge destruction occurred in our county, desolation were left in their wake. The pre-Mohács settlement structure is reflected in the portal census prepared in 1545, the total number of the settlements was 355.

Because of the devastation of the 15-year war, this number fell to 187, then to 151 in 1610, and then following the more peaceful years, increased to 215 by 1647. However the number of the former settlement could not be achieved by the county in the 18th century. In the early 1700s Nógrád became poorer nearly 90 villages compared to the 16th century’s data.

In my study, with the help of Turkish portal and defter census and other historical sources I am going to reveal the estate structure of Kékkő area’s district in the sixteenth - and seventeenth century.
