NEW DATA ON HISTORICAL RECORDS OF TOMBS AND CEMETERIES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR IN NÓGRÁDCOUNTY

On the occasion of the centenary of the First World War in many settlements in Nógrád County, beside the reconstruction of historical statues of the First World War, heroic tombs are also renovated. Celebrating the 100 year old anniversary the reconstruction of the heroic monuments of the First World War is in focus, but additionally, much attention has been paid on the heroic cemeteries and tomb as well.

During the summer in 1914 the state of war was declared in Hungary that resulted in the elaboration of regulation of the burial of the heroes and also the maintenance of the heroic cemeteries and tombs.

Numerous heroic tombs and cemeteries can be found in many settlements in Nógrád County. History of separately walled cemeteries in Losonc and Balassagyarmat is recorded in this paper. In Losonc the “cemetery of heroes” was eliminated, however in Balassagyarmat the cemetery was completely reconstructed. It was fairly common that in municipal cemeteries heroic tombs were sparsely be deposited, such as tombs of heroic soldiers of the 65th imperial and royal infantry in Salgótarján. In 1938 the scattered heroic tombs of the 65thimperial and royal infantry and the walled tombs of the 30th imperial and royal infantry were simultaneously disinterred. In 1939 these tombs collectively were redeposited in the buttress of the municipal cemetery of Salgótarján.
