BÉLA JUDIK - SZEPESSYNÉ DOROTTYA JUDIK OUR INVALUABLE TREASURE, SALGÓ - LANDSCAPE HISTORICAL SYNOPSIS FROM THE MIDDLE AGES TO THE 20TH CENTURY The investigation of how local people were in close contact with the natural environment, with the natural resources, how tried to conserve and cultivate the natural resources, what kind of regulations and roles were applied for reaching these purposes, all these aspects are closely linked to the ecological history overview of the Castle of Salgó and the surroundings, in a wider sense, the Karancs-Medves area. In this study mainly archival source strings - urbariums (rent-rolls), records of general assembly meetings of the county, national and county drafts, documentations of family archives, army drafts, secondly - regulations, decisions, laws, manuscripts and published county monographs, descriptive statistical documents, scientific and literature studies related to Karancs-Medves Region are reviewed. In this work the viewpoint of Agnes Várkonyi R. is adopted. She claimed that the loss of traditional environmental equilibrium in the Carpathian Basin occurred in the 18th century, since the needs of the doubled population were still filled with traditional techniques. This study demonstrates the landscape history of the Castle of Salgó and its surroundings from the Prehistoric Age to the end of the 20th century. 86
