Palaeosciurus ultimus (MEIN & GINSBURG, 2002) finds from the paleovertebrate fauna of Hasznos (The first sure occurence of Palaeosciurus in the Carpathian Basin) by János Hír—Andrea Pászti Two large sized sciurid teeths (Ml-2, p4) were found by the authors during a field campaign organized in 2011 at the middle Miocene paleovertebrate locality Hasznos. The finds were determined as Palaeosciurus ultimus. The classification is based on the measurements of the Ml-2. These fossils represent the first sure occurence of the Palaeosciurus genus. Erroneous determination of the genus was earlier reported from Felsőtárkány 3/2 by Hír J. After a detailed study these finds were classified as Spermophilinus bredai. Another misdetermination was published from the fauna Egerbocs. The m2 molar was revised as Sciurinae gen. et sp. indet. The locality Hasznos was primary sampled and studied by László Kordos. He gave the systematic elaboration of the cricetid finds and he described two new taxa: Democricetodon hasznosensis, Deperetomys hágni hungaricus. The latter one was revised as Cricetodon hungaricus by De Bruijn et al. The biochronological position of the Hasznos locality is an object of a debate. MN7/8 and MN6 determinations were published in the literature. More material is needed for a founded classification. 221
