Keepsakes of the Singing Circle of the Readers’ Society of the Salgótarján

Steelworks 1923—1942 by Zoltán Balogh

The chorus of the Steelworks sang the song ’Motto’ with the abovementioned starting lines composed by the choir master József Ursutz at every important performance.

In the study the keepsakes of the Choir of the Readers’ Society preserved in the collection of the Nógrád Historical Museum are examined, with special emphasis on awards received at celebrations of music, regional and national singing contests, such as the celebration of music in Szombathely (1923), the regional contests of singers in Miskolc (1928), Ózd (1935) and the national singing events in Sopron (1925), Szeged (1927), Debrecen (1929) and Győr (1940). The circumstances of the origin of these items are described.
