2. Mátraszőlős 1-2. The small village is found in the valley of the Zagyva River close to the town Pásztó. The "terrestric Sarmatian" sédiments are exposured by the side of the dirt road below the so called "Rákóczi Chapel". Here enrichment of the freshwater and land mollusc Shells were reported by HORUSITZKY (1942). The reinvestigation of the sections was iniciated by H r in 1998. The vertebrate material was found in diatomaceous clay in the section no. 1. and in green clay below a lignite seam in the section no. 2. Fundamental différences were not found between the material of the two findpoint. After the washing of 4 tonnes of sédiments the following leporid and rodent species were described: Eurolagus fontannessi Spermophilinus bredai (Fig. 9.) Muscardinus aff. sansaniensis Eliomys truci (Fig. 17.) Bransatoglis sp. (?) Eomyops oppligeri (Fig. 28.) Keramidomys mohlerí (Fig. 27.) Democrícetodon mutilus Democricetodon cf. freisingensis Megacricetodon minor Crícetodon cfhungarícus Eumyaríon latior Anomalomys gaudryi The mollusc fauna refers to the Laté Badenian. Febőtárkány The village is situated North from the town Eger. The Sarmatian nonmarine séries of the Northern margin of the settlement (outcropped by erosional trenches) was first described by SCHRETER (1913). The freshwater and land molluscs of the locality were primary elaborated by SÜMEGHY (1924, 1925). The eminent plant fossil material was published in the monography of ANDREÁNSZKY (1958). The list of the vertebrate fossils (collected without washing) was given by KRETZOI (1982): Galerix éhiki, Pliopithecus sp., Chloromys minutus, Leptodontomys sp., Amphilagus fontannesi, Proboscidea indet., Cervavitus sp. Unfortunately the field investigation of the locality complex was broken in 1950. Boné -bearing layers Felsőtárkány 1. and Felsőtárkány 3/2. were found again in 1999 and 2000 by Hír and a group of students. The preliminary list of the rodents is the following: Felsőtárkány 1.
