Vicze Magdolna: The symbolic meaning of Urn 715
together is not surprising. In fact, within this cemetery there are altogether 84 graves belonging to these two complexes respectively. Among them are three Nagyrév burials containing Kisapostag finds, and five Kisapostag graves with Nagyrév finds. The phenomenon itself is not unknown otherwise. Actually, it should be expected as the people of these two traditions occupied the same region simultaneously. Thus other known sites with the same pattern include Kulcs-Császártanya, 10 Ercsi-Sinatelep, 11 Kisapostag-Kollár föld, 12 Kisapostag, 13 and Kunszentmiklós-Bakérpart. 14 However, when considering the main grave good, i.e. the urn the cultural identity is not so straightforward. This urn is a unique piece in itself. The shape or the form of the vessel is derived from the most prominent and distinctive type of the Kisapostag culture. The wide everted rim, the big globular-like body and the four small handles on the widest part of the vessel, situated opposite to each other, are all characteristics of Kisapostag urns. Parallels to the form can be found at Ercsi-Sinatelep grave 22, 15 KisapostagKollár föld grave 3; 16 best examples for the wide everted rim with short and curved neck come from Balatongyörök pit a-g, 17 a very similar piece from Veszprém-Várhegy. 18 The same details can be observed on the cooking pots from Balatongyörök pit a, 19 and on two strayfinds in Mozsolics's comprehensive publication. 20 One more element implies close Kisapostag roots, namely the horizontal band of ornament on the belly of the vessel placed between the handles. This can be found on almost all the Kisapostag urns from the Dunaújváros cemetery 21 and is just as common at other site, like at Kisapostag, 22 Kisapostag part of Kulcs-Császártanya, 23 Balatonlelle10 BONA 1975, 45. 11 BÁNDI 1965-66. 12 MOZSOLICS 1942. 13 PÁSZTOR 1997. 14 VICZE1986. 15 BÁNDI 1965-66 Pl.
