Bíró Endre: Pannon Concerns of Brigetio wall – paintim
The Pannonian Relations of the WaUpaintings from Brigetio Endre Bíró More thousands of wallpainting fragments were found in Szőny and this made possible to reconstruct the decoration of a larger hall. The wallpainting was made in the first half of the 2nd century, probably during Antonius Pius's reign and it was destroyed during the markomann wars. Two of the mithological scenes placed in red and yellow fields - Heracles and Hesiona, Mars and Ilia - show some similarities to the reliefs from Pannónia. From this fact we can conclude that tombs with mithological reliefs appeared in the first half of the 2nd century in Pannónia. Taking in consideration the wallpainting from Brigetio we conclude that these tombs immitated the paintinted homes and consequently the reliefs did not predominantly have a sepulchral significance. We believe that they represented those mithological scenes that were present on the wallpaintings of the homes. 209
