„M A FISCHER UND SOHN" Concerning the history of Mózes Áron Fischer's family Eva S. Cserey In the 19 th century two reputed Fischers lived in Tata: Mór Fischer, the establisher of the Herend Factory and his relative, Mózes Aron Fischer, the owner of the stoneware factory. The present study introduces the hitherto little-known history of stove manufacture in the stoneware factory (established by the Tata-based Mózes Áron Fischer) and the individuals of the factory management until 1913, when the factory was finally closed. The single positive piece of information, which testified to the fact that stoves were manufactured in the period of dual factory management was the mark indicated on fragments of stoves („MA FISCHER UND SOHN TOTIS") that survived in the Miklós Mill. There are no data proving the supposition that stoves were manufactured before that time. Due to a lack of material remains, the mark applied for the stoves manufactured later (in the period of Károly Fischer and his son Artur Fischer and Co.) is unknown. The data concerning the individuals at the head of the factory were stated precisely on the basis of the Central Bulletin (established in 1876). Owing to the archival researches conducted so far, our knowledge of stove manufacture and of the operation of the factory in Tata has increased. Nevertheless, our knowledge concerning the factory itself is still incomplete, which necessitates further work. 206
