Recommendations . f ; 3 wmmim Landscape and climate The landscape is abrupt as a result of glaciation in bygone eras. The Andes here are a series of mountain chains divided by deep valleys with lakes, rivers, peat bogs and forest. The climate is cool-temperate, damp, with no marked wet season. The annual mean precipitation is around 25 inches (700 mm) with a slight peak in autumn. The proximity of the sea, coupled with the dominant westerly winds, moderate temperatures which are low: winters average around freezing (0°C) and summer averages not above 10°C. Snow is abundant and accumulates over winter in deeper valleys and slopes. Leave no trace of your camping in or passing through the national park. Only use permitted sites and do not dig drainage trenches around your tent. Fires: the smaller the better. A stove is ideal, but if you do not have one make a small fire in the authorised pits. Use small, dry, fallen branches. Never leave a lit fire - soak and stir the ashes till you feel the m cold. Rubbish... everything in its proper place. Use a trashbag and carry it out with you to dispose of it in an O appropriate place. Fishing - only with a permit. Sport fishing for the introduced trout is allowed but procure a license and read the regulations carefully. No pets. Domestic pets are not allowed in the park. And don't feed the animals; nature provides for them. Drive slowly - maximum speed is 40 Km/hr. In dusty conditions turn oin your lights. Recreational activities: The park has camping facilities and trails. Ask National Parks personnel about these; they will give you a brochure about the trails with more specific information.
