The Slovakian Museum of Hungarian Culture Gabriella Jarúbik Attempts to created a museological institute representing the history, folk culture, traditions and values of Slovakian Hungarians that would operate beyond the local level have a long past. The Documentation Centre of Hungarian Culture was formed as an independent department of the Slovak National Museum on 1 st July, 2001. With this, a new link in the chain of the network of institutes of Slovakian ethnic minorities was forged, and with it the Hungarian cultural theatres. After one year of operation, the Documentation Centre of Hungarian Culture received a new founding document, and since the July of 2002 has operated as the Slovakian Museum of Hungarian Culture, an independent unit of the Slovakian National Museum. Its primary responsibility is the research of the material and intellectual culture of Hungarians in Slovakia, which goes parallel with collecting work, scientific research and documentary and methodological activities. The headquarters of the institute are to be found in the Brämer mansion in Bratislava, which also provides exhibition space. Si8nce January 2003, Madách Castle at Dolná Strehová and the Mikszáth memorial house at Sklabiná have also come under the domain of the Slovakian Museum of Hungarian Culture.
