Mindly Fazekas THE FOUNDATION OF THE MUSEUM OF KARCAG AND ITS FIRST INVENTORY The history of Hungarian Ethnology bears in mind that the Museum of Karcag in the Great Hungarian Plain was established by Istvan Gyorffy who was the first professor of Ethnology in the University of Budapest. Refer to the fact that the undergraduate Istvan Gyorffy published a public notice in a local paper for the sake of the foundation of the museum in November 7 1906. On the contrary the author reports that the local Calvinist assistant minister Andres Joo had already started a series of articles in an other local paper in October 14 1906. He wrote about the importance of a museum, published a list of collected objects and the name of the donators. Therefore we consider him the initiator of the suggestion to establish a museum.
