Történettudomány - Tolnay Gábor: Az 1920-as évek földreformja Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok vármegyében

TISICUM XXVIII. Gábor Tolnay: The land reform of the 1920’s in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county The implementation of Nagyatádi’s land reform was contradictory. It could not be anything else. The Ministry of Agriculture and Home Affairs demanded from its bodies, both on the county and local levels, that the laws are executed almost literally. Meanwhile the National Land Court committee, which eventually approved the verdicts, seeing behind the scenes, made its decisions according to the spirit of the law. There were examples in the county, where no process of purchasing was started, although there were land claimants. Meanwhile, 36,93% of lands in Tiszapüspöki and 36,91% in Dévaványa were issued. It is safe to say that the goal of the process was to keep the quiet, order and calm in the country, and not even the landowners should feel the reform much. Gyula Gömbös’ government program already contained outlines of the new land reforms, during which they repeated all the essential measures of Nagyatádi’s reform, but in a much more perspectivical form. Not even the National Hungarian Economic Association, National Chamber of Agriculture, or the landowners were especially wary of this. The aspired goal, however, could not be achieved because of unforeseen effects. Such an effect was the start of WWII, and the radical changes of circumstances in economics and government after the war. 202
