Thanks to these great efforts Seres accounts became extensively studied and many of the earlier misinterpretations have been cleared. It is already widely accepted that in 1st -5th century Western literature only an ambiguous knowledge appeared about this silkweaving society and the term Seres rather referred to a vague ethnonym on the easternmost part of the Oikumene than to the Chinese or any other nations exclusively. However analyzing Roman perceptions of the Silk people is still a less studied topic. Through grouping these texts by date and genre it is possible to encircle a fluctuation of information which might help to envisage how the Roman concept of this far eastern population changed through the centuries. The paper does not merely provide another collection of Seres records but by using the above method also aims to give an integrated approach towards the Roman views of the Silk people which might provide a better understanding on the Roman reception of the Far East.
