BERTA FERENC: MŰKEDVELŐ FOTOGRÁFUSOK SZOLNOKON 1890-1990 Polónyi István: Patak Ferenc Berta Amateur photographers in Szolnok In all ages, all walks of life there was, is and will be the class what can be called amateur. Like every profession, trade, photography did not and could not go without the non-professionals, since the history showed that the nonprofessionals indeed needed and will be needed in the development of the photography. To produce artistic results in the field of photography, just like in the case of other arts, and sometimes even more, a lot of experience, appropriate technical sense, skill, taste and advanced artistic sense are required. Amateurs in most of the cases are not in the enviable position as a sculptor, painter or other artist, who defines the subject of the composition, and put it in the best possible environment. Exceeding the initial documentation of reality and family photos, the amateur composes images formulating his own high standards, expressing his own feelings. This happened in the case of the amateur photographers in Szolnok too. They formulated their ideas into images first for themselves, but subsequently in organized form for the citizens of Szolnok and later for the whole world. They were present from the 1890s, after the turn of the century, during the Great War, in the time of the great depression, after the bombing of Szolnok, in the '50s and '60s, at the 900-year anniversary of Szolnok town, and even today the non-professional, amateur photographers of our town work and exhibit.
