I Tisicum XIX. Lajos PALLOS A forgotten specimen of the Military Badge of Honour for Szenttamás Abstract Hungary was attacked from every direction during the War of Independence in 1848-49. Serbians attacked from the south and instituted several fortresses in Southern Hungary. Szenttamás was the most important one of these. The Hungarian army attempted to capture it three times, finally the fortress of Szentttamás was captured on 3 April of 1849. Memorial badges in 6000 copies were made to commemorate the event and were distributed amongst the victorious soldiers. At the fall of the War of Independence the newly made badges were hidden underground. Later they were dig out and were melted for a bell, but 25 badges were not desroyed of the 6000 pieces. Most of them got lost in the next decades, only two pieces were known till now. One of them was saved by the Laczkó Dezső Múzeum in Veszprém, the other one was saved by the Hungarian National Museum. Last year we found a new one on the occasion of rearrenging of numismatical's collections in Hungarian National Museum. This third, new decorations is in the best condition and the least damaged of the known specimens. I 554
