évére emlékező kiállításunkra is válogathattunk. Mészáros Lajos mindössze 46 évet élt, még csak most lett volna 80 esztendős. Kevés datálható mű, még kevesebb elemző írás maradt fent művészetéről. Festészete fő erőssége portréinak, tájainak, falusi, tiszai életképeinek festőiségében rejlett. A színskála melegebb, telített színeit használta, kevés kontúrral rajzolva körül foltokban feltett MÁRIA EGRI Lajos Mészáros has not been with us for the pást 35 years, but he would be only 80 now. The Damjanich Museum of Szolnok commemorates the anniversary of his birth and death with a retrospective exhibition. He was a member of a generation of artists who completed their studies in the middle of the 1950s, settled down in the Artists' Colony of Szolnok, and whose careers were interwoven with the post-1956 history of the colony founded in 1902 and operating ever since. Lajos Mészáros studied at the College of Fine Árts between 1948 and 1953 under the guidance of László Bencze and Bertalan Pór. He finally completed his studies in Géza Fónyi's mosaic class, and from then on this murai technique remained the everlasting lőve his life. Somé of his completed mosaic works include Playing Children on a wall of a block of flats in a housing estate in Nagy Lajos Király Street, Budapest from 1956, and Peacock in a Szolnok kindergarten from the 60s. In the last years of his life, he created a large-sized wall-picture on request from the Ore Mine Company of Rudabánya on the wall of their health centre. In 1957 he and his young wife moved in one of the stúdiós of the Szolnok Artists' Colony that he had applied for and won. After the war, the summer artists' colony, which had operated in the framework and according to the rules of the Artistic Association, went through totál structural reorganisation. After repairing the damages, and gradually reconstructing both buildings, from the 1960s onwards, ten painters and three sculptors settled down here, whose names hallmarked the exhibitions and events of local association operating in the framework of the National motívumait. Élete utolsó éveiben Rudabányán monumentális képességeit is bizonyította. Váratott még magára több mozaik, varázsos táj, drámai metszetek sora. Egy méltatlanul korán befejezett művészpálya kiteljesedése. Artistic Federation. On average, they had two exhibitions a year; the spring exhibition represented artists from Szolnok and Bács-Kiskun counties, while the one in winter represented those from Szolnok county. The Damjanich Museum of Szolnok housed these exhibitions until 1972, when the Gallery of Szolnok opened in the restored building of the former synagogue. In these exhibitions, Lajos Mészáros displayed not only his oil paintings and oil temperas, but his coloured and black and white copied graphics as well. His first independent exhibition opened in 1961 in the Szigligeti Theatre of Szolnok. In 1967, he had an exhibition of his works in Aba Nóvák Hall, and in 1969 one in Eger. His etched engravings and linó etchings, which are of the same quality as his paintings, enriched his works. An outstanding example of these is a series of five linó engravings inspired by the play Bánk bán by József Katona. A year after he died, an exhibition of his works was organised in the Gallery of Szolnok from pieces of his bequest. The main strength of his painting lies in his picturesque portraits, landscapes and rural living pictures. He mainly used warm and full colours of the scale with few outlines around his motifs. He enjoyed strong differences in colours, mixing deep and light colours, but he avoided dissonance. The valeurs followed one another in his portraits, landscapes and the lines of nudes. He lived 46 years only. Very few of his dated works can be found now, and evén fewer analysing articles of his art. A series of mosaics, magic landscapes and dramatic etchings were yet to be born; the fulfilment of an artistic career that came to an early and undeserving end.
