The miniature paper theatre by Schreiber includes lithographed or lithoprinted and numbered pieces that form the backdrop, wings, props, costumed figurines and scripts. The lithographed sheets of the Schreiber Childrens Theatre were made in Jacob Ferdinand Schreibers printing house in Esslingen in 1878 and were produced up until 1926. Schreibers publishing house employed the most prominent illustrators of the time and his paper theatres were illustrated for example by the Munich painter Theodore Guggenberger (1866-1929). The scripts were adaptations of original stories, written in blackletter, in dialogue form and verse by youth authors. The repertoire of the Schreiber theatre initially included childrens stories, the most popular genre at the time, but later also produced opera and drama adaptations. This toy theatre has been in the possession of an Eger family for several generations, as part of the heritage of family member, Mrs Alajos Schmotzer, Mária Tarczal from Kosice, who was a popular member of the Catholic Young Mens Theatrical Club of Kosice. Following the restoration and conservation of the most damaged pieces, the childrens theatre has been on display to the general public as a travelling exhibition since 2016. 320
