collection came into being, the primary task of which became the research of toy culture of the Hungarian language area. The museum is specialised in ethnography, fine and applied arts, as well as technical history: a repository of several thousand toys of various peoples, to this closely connected, but still separate clay whistle collection, old Hungarian children’s books, the applied art toys related to secession from the turn of the 19th - 20th century, the collectives preserving the Hungarian toy-making workshops between 1920-1940, fair toys and games of the domestic industry and the applied folk arts. The collections presenting the life-works of artists’, applied artists’ and applied popular artists’ represent special value, such as the Grabóka workshop of Leon Grabowieczky, the objects and designs explaining the toy design work of Rozi Antoni and László Nádas applied form-designers, the clay toys of the potter János Dugár. A totally independent genre is the Rodolfo collection, the accesso­ries of the world famous magician, Rezső Gács, his collection of books, cards and the documentation showcasing his work. Behind these collections one can find the style and child-raising intention of different times, the specific culture of peoples, nations and in addition the individual walks of life. Over the last few decades the collection of Szórakaté- nusz Toy Museum and Workshop was greatly influenced, which is connected by many threads to people, families, holidays and weekdays, to the past and present. To present and elaborate them is a no small task. 48
