Games and Toys in the context of children’s material culture - From children's art exhibitions to childhood museums

The children art efforts developing at the turn of the 19-20th century culminated in large, summary exhibitions, which covered all those that are by today’s research epitomised as the material culture of childhood. These exhibitions paved the way for the wide-ranging interpretation of children’s culture, and which in concept also forecasted the development of childhood museums in the 1960s.

Since these museums include game and toy collections, they can be observed in a new approach, placed within the wider context of childhood, shedding light on their changes, economic, social role in the life of children with diverse social background.
