Bodnár Zsuzsanna: A Sóstói Múzeumfalu népi gyermekjáték gyűjteménye, időszaki kiállításai

Zsuzsanna Bodnár Folk toy collection and temporary exhibitions of the Sóstó Museum-village The ethnographic collection of the museums of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county can be found in the Sóstó Museum-village, containing about 25.000 ethnographic objects, of which 536 are folk toys. Our collecting area is Szabolcs-Szatmár- Bereg county. Both big groups, the toys and the playing devices can be found in our collection. This study discusses girls’ and boys’ toys and those that were used by both groups, the sound producing toys, musical instruments and the sport like games, in details. The current toy collection’s material got in the museum usually randomly, during the collection of other object groups, as a result of applications, or by teachers’ contribution. The object assemblies provide a nearly honest picture about the toys of a certain village. As toys were usually made from easily accessible materials that did not represent great value: bone, clay, wood, paper, rag or feather, and most of them did not belong to the durable, protected, herited objects, they were and they are are subject to decay. Toys differed by age groups and sex, but they referred mostly to the environment the children lived in: household and dolls for girls, husbandry tools and weapons for boys. Common feature of the toys is that they have simple forms and colours, they’re functional. The children’s imagination could easily cover the deficiency of the material and the technique. Folk toys, with their pure simplicity, are invaluable even in today’s childcare, too. The success of the temporary exhibitions held in the Sóstó Museum- village proves the interest in folk toys. 146
