Árpád Dávid - Rozália Fodor Trace fossils in the collection of the Mátra Museum The examination and research of trace fossils is an important branch of palaeontology. Still, only a few natural historical museums around the world possess a collection of such theme. As an unequalled initiative in Hungary, we initiated the formation of an extensive trace fossils collection within the palaeontological collection of the Mátra Museum. Our aim is to exhibit the traces of bioerosion, bioturbination and other trace fossils occurring within the Carpathian Basin, as well as in other areas of the Earth. The material (real) collection will also be complemented with a virtual one, in which such trace fossils will be show-cased, the collection of which is not feasible due to the state of their poor preservation or other causes. 47
