t May 1917, i.e. 95 years ago. The story and the causes of the fire have been told many times, almost an entire library worth of literature is at our disposal. Its role can still not be overly emphasized. And although it is a bit astounding, the modern history of the town can mostly be divided into periods after firestorms. The aim of this paper is to enrich the research with a few small contributions, some minor supplements that surfaced in connection with local history research of a different sort, and with the issue of a poem influenced by the fire. The poem that at one time also appeared in print was written by the eyewitness György Pátzay, and his work was so much known in Gyöngyös between the interwar period that not only did many knew it by heart, but they also instinctively derived their words from it, when recollecting, talking about it. 252
