Tóth Zoltán Henrik: Egy őskori kőbánya. A mátraderecskei Kanázsvár ciszternája
Zoltán Henrik Tóth An ancient quarry The Kanázsvár cistern in Mátraderecske In my study I present the ancient quarry situated directly at the foot of the tower ruins on Kanázsvár hill belonging to the village of Mátraderecske. The Kanázsvár hill consists of biotiteanfibole-andesite rock from the Upper Eocene. An opalite layer of circa 0.5 cm can be observed in the base rock (even on several stones of the castle ruins). The west-east oriented groove at the opening is 2.1 m, while at the end 0.6 m wide. Its northern side at the middle of the groove is 3 m, its southern side is 2.1 m deep. Its northern side is 4,7 m, its southern side is 5 m in length. The bottom of the groove until the depth of about 0.5-1 m is filled with rubble and earth treaded in from stripping and from the adjacent footpath. Small limnoquartzite and opalite pieces can also be found in the filling. Due to its small size the groove was sooner carved in prehistoric times than in the Middle Ages. The exact dating of exploitation of the quarry and the necessary research of the material and its relationship with nearby localities (i.e. the huge grinding and millstone carving field near Domoszló) could presumably make up the subject-matter of some more subsequent studies. 10
