that the icons of Russian folk art and embroidery traditions helped to move the Russian avant garde from a representative view of the world to abstraction and the spiritual. Also Lesznai's rejection of urban civilisation and the nostalgia she felt towards nature (flora and fauna), the rural community, the home and traditional human bonds were by no means unusual or necessarily contradictory to what was going on within contemporary avant garde movements elsewhere in Europe.
