Mátyás Berecz Tinódi Sebestyén's Historical Ballad as a Basis for the Three Dimensional Computer Reconstruction of Eger Castle In 2001, in co-operation with György Domonkos of the Institute of Military History, we made a three-dimensional reconstruction of Eger Castle as it appeared in 1552 and 1568. The programme was created for the István Dobó Castle Museum's new, permanent historical exhibition based on the most recent historical research. While working on the project we soon realised that a number of corrections were required. Despite the shortfalls in both the research work and the capabilities of the computer programme used, it nevertheless proved a useful experiment, the findings of which György Domonkos published in Hadtörténelmi Közlemények (Military History Bulletin) 114/4. We relied on several sources when piecing together the reconstruction: archaeological surveys and reports, contemporary surveys and financial accounts, visual representations and written descriptions. It was Sebestyén Tinódi's Eger viadaljáról való ének (Ballad of the Victory in Eger), however, that proved our most useful source, the first part of which gives a thorough and detailed description of the castle as it was in the middle of the 16th century. The ballad was the first such work to describe Eger in this way. Although Tinódi only provides data which is relevant to the description of the siege, it is an incomplete picture 718
