Kiss Péter: Ipolyi Arnold és az egri főegyházmegye (1860–1873)
Péter Kiss Arnold Ipolyi and the Archdiocese of Eger (1860-1873) Canon Arnold Ipolyi was one of the most excellent, most active and most productive clergy the diocese of Eger has ever produced, who, as a full member, was also actively involved in the work of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Indeed, his work continues to be of great significance. One needs only to mention his discovery with Imre Henszlmann of a number of manuscripts once belonging to Matthias Corvinus in Constantinople, his interest in the religious beliefs of our Hungarian forefathers, and his substantial collection of antiquities. A summary of his work in the town and the diocese of Eger has yet to be written however, and it is the aim of this brief study to make the first tentative steps in this direction. 611
