be absolutely familiar with the material we have available. It is the aim of this particular study to contribute to the work which will eventually enable us to document the development of the writer's outlooks. The third part of this series deals with the origins, the publication and the subsequent history of Gárdonyi's Ida's Novel {Ida regényé), The Horn (A kürt) as well as Ki-ki with her Partner (Ki-ki a párjával), while examining the documents relating to them in the collection. All three works date from the final years of the writer's life, and several manuscripts survive from all of them. These provide us with an excellent opportunity to document the circumstances in which they were written and the reasons for any corrections that were made; also one can trace the creative process which led to the birth of the novels themselves. The facts which have now come to light support the view that Gárdonyi was a deliberate writer, who was rigorous in his preparation work and worked hard at his craft. He also endeavoured to respect those rules applying to the writing process which he set for others and most importantly himself. 362
