Feld István: Műemlékvédelem és várkultusz Egerben
Felügyelőség /OMF/ (The National Inspectorate for the Conservation of Ancient Monuments). Whilst undertaking excavations in hitherto unexplored parts of the castle, the archaeologists' and the architects' main task was to make the site as attractive to visitors, whilst ensuring that the appearance of the castle was as authentic as possible. At the same time the castle had to meet the castle's everchanging requirements. Whilst some of the actions taken may have been overzealous, certainly when seen in terms of current building preservation practice, the overall results of what happened during that period were generally speaking positive. Although the castle was spared some of the more extreme solutions of what was an uncompromising age, the modern additions to the towers on the south-western side of the castle built during the last few decades are not without problems. It is only to be hoped that the current fashion for "rebuilding" does not mean that Eger wins a national cult site at the expense of its castle. 273
