Bodó László: Adatok a Knezić és a Grőber családok lezármazottainak történetéhez

László Bodo Facts about the Ancestors of the Knézic and the Grober Families This study looks at the lives of the descendants of the third son of the second generation of the Grober family, Ferenc Grober, and his wife Lujza Pillesz, based on those archives which have been found and analysed thusfar. The article provides an opportunity to compare a family tree produced by two of their descendents in the 1930's with what has been found in the most recently uncovered archive material. Seen side by side the documents prove it is never too late to use one's national crudentials to maintain the local standing of your particular family. General Károly Knézic, whose career came to such a tragic end, enriched Eger's military traditions. The Grobers, by virtue of their hard work both as active citizens and in the field of agriculture, also managed to start traditions enjoyed by both town and residents. The male descendants of the family, having got their university diplomas, felt it necessary also to take their officer reservist exams. Perhaps they did this out of some kind of respect for their distant ancestor, the martyr general. The females in the family were only too happy to marry officers, who were in turn delighted to make a match so rich in military significance. It is certain that the women remained as loyal to their military husbands as their husbands did to their profession calling. 296
