Financing the Fights Against the Ottomans from the Fall of Buda to the Treaty of Adrianople

Tlie paper describes the financing system of the border fortresses and the anti- Ottoman fights in the period from establishing the system ofborder fortresses to the Treaty of Adrianople. It reviews the key financial management reforms introduced during the reigns of Ferdinand I and Maximilian II, focusing specifically on the stakeholders and the system of military finances. The study presents actual data on the financing of the border fortress system and the fights against the Ottomans between 1543 and 1572 in the context of the Habsburg monarchy. It lists the revenues of the Kingdom of Hungary for the above period, including the payments to the soldiers, and publishes the existing records on the accounts of the court and military paymaster offices which played a key role in the financing of the border fortress system.
