Pod red.: Teresa Chynczewska-Hennel - Piotr Kroll - Miroslaw Nagielski. Wyd. DiG, Warszawa. Sándor Gebei "Turkish Hostility" of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 17th Century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was always interested in a war against the Ottoman Empire declared by a European alliance. East and middle European political intents of the Noble Republic was mainly influenced by its geopolitical location. This was the situation in 1593-1606,1620-1621,1684-1699. However the European alliance against the Turks did not come into being with Polish- Lithuanian participation neither in 1645-1646, nor in 1663-1664. Searching for the reason of this deficiency, the author highlights that the foreign policy of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth - unlike the Hungarian Kingdom - was anti- Islam rather than anti-Turkish, due to repeating attacks of Crimean Khanates year after year. These Tatar raids had a serious impact on the domestic politics of the country. In 1645-1646-1648, and until 1654, the Tatar-Cossack co-operation prevented the participation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in an anti- Ottoman block. In 1663-1664 the nobility rebelled against the king and hindered joining the war in Hungary supported by the Holy Roman Empire. This Polish- Lithuanian domestic political crisis wrecked the unity of Western Christianity against the Ottoman Empire. 161
