SÁNTA ÁKOS: Egy erődváros a korszakváltás idején. Érsekújvár telkeinek összeírása és a város újra települése a török kiűzése után
Ákos Sánta A FORTRESS AT THE END OF AN ERA THE CENSUS OF THE PARCELS OF ÉRSEKÚJVÁR AT THE TIME OF RESETTLEMENT AFTER EXPULSION OF THE TURKISH To sum up the ethnic composition of Érsekújvár in the 15 years or so after recapturing the settlement was similar to other Northern and Southern towns in Hungary. The population and the proprietary mostly consisted of Hungarians, Germans, and Slovakians; however, there were a few exceptions that belonged to other ethnicities. After recapturing, the town admitted a significant number of citizens who mainly arrived from the multi-ethnic and heterogeneously privileged settlements of Nyitra and its neighbouring shires (Pozsony, Komárom Trencsén, Bars). Among the settlers the peasantry and the nobility had a fairly equal distribution followed by members of the third estate in somewhat lower numbers. Approaching the turn of the century the number of damaged and mined buildings were decreasing year by year, however in the census their number is still significant compared to the total number of buildings. Taking all this into consideration we imply that while the various official buildings were quickly rebuilt, the reconstruction of civilian estates was slow. This study tries to process the first half of the census, knowing that this intriguing topic could have been inspected in various ways. Later, by reviewing the construction history, processing the appendix, analyzing the census, land registration of other settlements and through abstraction of the current results we can get a more precise image about the structure, land structure of the fortresses recaptured from the Turkish in 1685 and its role in re-settlement. All these analyses will open the door for the comparison of not only Hungarian and Croatian, but also Italian and low country fortresses. 180
