Annamária Jeney-Tóth THE PRINCELY COURT OF ISTVÁN BOCSKAI DURING THE SUMMER OF 1605 (In the Light of the Kolozsvár Town Accounts) This study deals with the accounts for the town of Kolozsvár (now Cluj- Napoca, Romania) covering the month of August 1605. That we are in possession of such detailed information is thanks in no small part to the town’s Saxon traditions. The intention of the national assembly set for August 10th was to formally invest István Bocskai with the title of prince, a position to which he had been elected the previous February in Nyárádszereda (now Miercurea Nirajului, Romania). The Partium was represented by the Náprády, Kökényesdi and Farkas families and Upper Hungary by the Turanszkys and Megyerys. The origins of four of the families mentioned remain unknown. During the course of his stay in Kolozsvár the prince had a private audience with Jesuit vice-provincial Argenti, at which a decision relating to a property dispute going on between the town of Kolozsvár and the Jesuits was postponed until the national assembly. It was during this time 275
