time the end of 2006 a building will have been constructed that not only functions as a place where exhibitions are held, but it shows those relics of architectural interest that could not be seen after the classicist reconstruction of 1826. Thanks to architectural excavation, Baroque details appeared and they will be seen in the three-centred corridors of the internal yard, and the wall-frescoes of the rooms behind the main facade will also delight the visitors. Besides the exhibitions in the renovated Baroque and the renewed classicist rooms, there will be a modern conference room and a library both serving scientific work. With covering the internal yard there will be a new central reception area, which can be used for other programmes as well. Dear Friends of the museum, This publication includes those researches and their results that make it possible to carry out this enormous project. You can read about the story of the mansion, which is in strong connection with the history and activity of the Orczy family in Gyöngyös. You can get a detailed picture of the architectural history of the mansion and the excavation of the wellpreserved Baroque wall-frescoes, of which appearance surprised even the experts. Since the revitalisation of the English garden begins in the first phase of the renovation, - although it will obtain its final form later - the dendrological survey of the present state, which is close to the history of the garden, is also presented here. In my opinion this book is useful not only for those who are interested in the history of Gyöngyös, but for those as well who would like to get an insight into the professional work that serves the renewal of a significant monument. The authors of this publication, the creative community of Grafit 37, the colleagues of the museum, who work invisibly, but whose work is indispensable believe that this booklet will be a useful companion while discovering the renewed mansion and garden. Our publication could be released with the help of the Association of the Friends of the Mátra Museum and the Cultural Committee of the Local Government of Gyöngyös. It deserves its place in the valuable work that has been and is taken upon by the Mátra Studies to popularise the cultural values of the town and its surroundings. 1 July 2005, Gyöngyös Levente Fűköh
