Birds of ottr region Hajdu-Bihar county is very rich in natural resources, biotopes. We can observe an avifauna rich in species in the country's first protected area - protected since 1939 - the Big Forest, in the arid and humid steppe of Hortobágy, on the fish ponds, in the inundation areas, in the sodic soil areas of Biliar in the Erdöspuszta. We can see various birds in the town parks, in the forest-belts and by the canal- and riversides. In the 8 show-cases of our exhibition we show 47 birds of our collection, which are or were present in our environment such as the eagle owl (Bubo bubo). Almost all of the presented birds became protected or strictly protected since they were gathered or got to the museum. Divers of the birds living in dwelling house areas you can see for example the blackbird (Turdus merula) nesting often there, looking for food under the bushes hopping and running about in the grass. Some of them, mostly those nesting in the towns, don't migrate and feed with insects and berries during the autumn and the winter. The redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus) builds his nest in holes on the walls, on rafters, but many nests were founded on electricity meters too. The small, yellowish plumaged serin (Serinus serinus) lives in public parks, allées and gardens, the crested lark (Calerida cristatd), which became increasingly towny, is seen often m meadows along the roads. The jackdaw (Corvus monedula) likes to feed in the company of the rooks (Corvus frugilegus) . Our smallest owl is the little owl (Athene noctua) nestling often anigh the humans. In this case he builds his nest in the roof of lairages or old buildings. Hi is a night hunter feeding with small mammals, birds, insects. Rarely we can see here a peregrine (Falco peregrinus) too. The avifauna of the forest and the skirts of the forest . The nightjar (Capriinulgus europaeus) sets out for hunting at nightfall to capture 49
